BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE AND PERSONAL EFFECTS – SEPTEMBER 2022
The following regulations are applicable to cargo and personal baggage carried for passengers and private individuals on the MV Edinburgh and the MV Lance.
- PASSENGER PERSONAL EFFECTSFurther to the baggage allowance (1 x suitcase to be placed in the hold and an overnight bag for on board use), passengers are permitted to carry additional personal effects, free of freight charge, up to maximum of one cubic meter (1m3) under the following terms and conditions:
- 1.1 Cargo (restricted to 1m3) must be delivered Table Bay Marine or a nominated cargo agent with accompanying invoices within the cut off period prescribed by the cargo (clearing) agent.
- 1.2 The nominated agent is to ensure all goods are properly crated, palletized / boxed and clearly marked.
- 1.3 All frozen and perishable goods must be shipped via an official cargo agent. None of these goods will be accepted unless delivered to the vessel by a cargo agent with all the relevant shipping/clearance documentation in place.
- 1.4 Personal effects carried for passengers up to a maximum of 1m3 will be carried free of charge, however, Table Bay Marine or other nominated cargo agent will levy all applicable customs clearance and packing related charges. Cargo more than this allowance will be charged at the applicable freight rates.
- PRIVATE CARGOPrivate Cargo (other than that covered in Section 1 above i.e., 1m3 allowance) is permitted to be carried by vessels on condition it is delivered to the vessel care of a nominated cargo agent with all the relevant shipping documentation in place.The master of the vessel will ensure that only cargo according to the Manifest is loaded on board the vessel.The non-declaration of goods shipped out of South Africa is an offence and Customs and Excise can impose significant penalty fines with confiscation of goods. The enforcement of this policy is necessary to protect both passengers and the company from any repercussions that may result from transgression of South African Custom regulations.Directors:
3. FISH, MEAT OR FRESH PRODUCE ARE STRICKLY PROHIBITED TO BE EXPORTED FROM TDC TO SOUTH AFRICA.
Passengers travelling to Cape Town cannot carry any fresh or frozen products as baggage or for personal consumption during their stay in Cape Town.
Failure to comply with the above conditions will lead to complications with the South African Port Authorities.
